Happenings at St. Luke

The Spirit is always active and moving in our midst. Are you feeling the stirring of the Spirit? Look around and see all that God is up to in our beautiful world. People are turning to him and finding life. Some are overcoming fears and moving forward. Sometimes there are very tangible signs of God’s work among us. The Youth Outpost is one of those signs. You have been a part of helping bring this exciting project to fruition. May it be a tool used for good in the lives of St. Luke youth and the young people of our surrounding community.

Jesus prayed for the unity of believers with a heartfelt plea (John 17.) We have before us an opportunity to show solidarity and support for our sisters and brothers at St. John Lutheran Church as we explore a merger. On Sunday, May 28th, after worship, we will have an open forum to look at what a merger would entail. So far, we have had a number of positive conversations and gatherings. It may be that pooling our resources would bring greater opportunities. We would not be doing anything different on our campus. The members of St. John would be coming to St. Luke to join the congregation and worship with us. We would come up with a process and form a team to consider how best to use the buildings and property of St. John at Fremont and Manet here in Sunnyvale. Pray about what God would have us do and bring your questions on May 28th.

New Children’s Ministry Director
We have been considering for some time whether or not to add some staffing to the St. Luke family. After considerable discernment we are looking at adding part-time staff in the areas of children’s ministry and youth. Erin Cassidy, our interim Amazing Creations Preschool director, is well qualified to assist with our children’s programs and to help our preschool families feel comfortable and nurtured by worshiping here at St. Luke. Erin will be coming on board on Sunday, July 16th, and will be getting to know the church families as she works with our learning board to prepare for the fall programs. Pray for Erin as she takes on this new role and for the children of our church and community as we seek to bring the good news of Jesus to each one. The next step will be to search for a part-time person to work with our high school youth. More information will be coming soon regarding this process. Again, your prayers are requested.

God bless you as we serve together in Jesus’ name.
