June is here and maybe warm weather will finally be the norm. This, we hope, will be the weather we have been looking for so we can paint Kurtz Hall on June 9th, our next workday for the church. Denise will not be available, but Don Merry will be heading up the work party so mark June 9th on your calendar and come out to help. Everything will be set up so all you will have to do is give a couple of hours of your time, 9:00 to 11:00, to complete this project. Brushes, paint, and gloves will be provided along with a great selection of treats. If you can put this on your calendar to help it will be greatly appreciated.
At our April meeting Ray Carlisle of Thrivent Financial requested an opportunity to talk to the congregation about retirement plans. We have scheduled this to take place after the service on August 5th. Lunch will be provided. This is not just a sales pitch but a time for you to ask questions about how to prepare for the future. I retired in 1999 and wished I would have had more information, so do yourself a favor and plan on attending this session.
Mary Hendrickson has completed the “Continuing Resolutions Update” and the council has given its final approval. If you are asked to take a job on the council and would like to know what this job entails just go to the church website and under Continuing Resolutions you will find a good description of that job. Many thanks to Mary for this update.
The ACP school has new LED lighting in the classrooms. Lois and Ms. Lakshmi are retiring in June. Both of them have added much to ACP and will be missed. We thank them for their hard work and dedication. Two new staff members, Ms. Wendy and Ms. Alison will be joining the staff in May and June. Your prayers for them during this transition will be appreciated.
Dorcas Wang, our missionary from China, will be visiting us on August 9th. The Youth Board is planning a neighborhood barbecue for that evening at 6:00 p.m., so mark your calendar. On August 12 Dorcas will report on her mission and a luncheon will follow. The Chinese school families will be invited to both events. Pastor Bob and Amy will be gone from June 11-17 on a backpacking trip to Yosemite. Then July 17-27 they will be going to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia plus a side trip to Montreal. In both cases we wish them safe trips. Pastor Gary will be filling in for Pastor Bob during this time.
With all the activity going on this summer I leave you with these verses from the Bible – 1 John 5:14-15 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” Please keep St. Luke in your prayers that we continue to do God’s will.
