Hello St. Luke! We are sending a youth team and adult leaders to Tijuana this summer to build houses for the needy. We are coordinating this with LBCM, Lutheran Border Concerns Ministry in San Diego, as we have in past Missions to Mexico. Our trip will be from Monday July 10th to Friday July 14th, and our actual build dates will be from Tuesday through Thursday. Please hold us in your prayers as we plan and prepare for this exciting opportunity! And please look for future announcements and activities supporting our Mission. If you have any questions please check with our youths or see any of the adult leaders, Pastor Bob or Miguel Villa or Roy Tuason.
Our Youth Snow Retreat is coming up February 21-24 in Arnold, CA. We will be staying at the Zichterman’s cabin again and we thank them for their hospitality. Space is limited so we may have to cut off the sign-ups at some point. Please let Pastor Bob know if you would like to go. Parents, we are looking for help planning the trip and we need 2 or 3 chaperones so please contact Pastor Bob if you can help in these areas
During the Month of September, our Youth Outpost Engineer and the City of Sunnyvale went back and forth about pier depths, loads on framing members, and other technical items regarding the Youth Outpost structure itself. On Octboer 26th, Dave Moore went to the city office and obtained the building permit! We are now ready to have the project go out for bidding. Once we get those bids back over the next month or so, they will be reviewed by council and shared with the congregation. Thanks again for everyone’s patience on this as we work through all the details!
Our older youth, 6th grade to high school, after Palm Sunday services are filling the Easter Eggs for the hunt.
We have decided to call it the Youth Outpost! In early concept stages it was called the tree house, but tree houses can conjure images of a ramshackle hut shabbily nailed to a tree, a dark and dusty room with maybe some cobwebs, protruding nails, and oh, please do be careful as you climb up so that you don’t pick up a splinter. Our structure will be so much more! It will be a beautiful visual centerpiece on the north side of the St. Luke campus. It will be a comfortable lounge. It will have a ramp, and stairs. It will be a meeting place. It will be a place to hang out and relax. It will be a structure built around our graceful blue oak tree but not nailed to it. It will be a strong statement that at St. Luke we love our youth! So we try not to use the “T word” any more.
