Happy Holiday season everyone! November 9th-11th, two youth and I went to Mt. Cross Ministries for a Confirmation retreat! This retreat was planned and executed by high school students in the Sierra Pacific Synod Youth Committee. They had many great events planned and the girls had a lot of fun. Annually, there are elementary, middle school and high school retreats, so I hope we can attend more in the coming years.
Happy December! I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is over, and we are once again getting ready to celebrate the birth of our Savior. What a wonderful time of year this is, when everyone is full of joy and a little bit stressed out at the same time.
St. Luke’s Sunday School program is still averaging around nine students per class. Lessons for November from the Spark Story Bible covered Rebekah and Isaac, Isaac’s Blessing, and Jacob Wrestles. No class was held on the 25th due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Our World Vision sponsored child from Indonesia, Nopriana Theodorus, celebrated her 14th birthday on the 6th – we sent her a card signed by all the Sunday School students, along with a donation for a birthday party and gifts.
In October, we were focused on the youth skit about Abram’s call. We had two practices for the skit and the youth practiced at home to make this skit a success! We also went to Comedy Sportz in San Jose for a multi-gen comedy show. It was their Halloween Spooktakular and it was a lot of fun.
Coming up in November, we have a lot to do! On November 3rd, we will be going to LaserQuest in Belmont for a fun time with friends. We will play two games and have pizza; the cost will be around $20/player.
We have returned and recovered from the ELCA Youth Gathering! We all had a lot of great experiences and loved sharing those with the congregation at church on July 8th. VBS was an amazing success and it was great to see the youth with larger roles this year. All ages were able to come together to provide a wonderful camp for over 60 kids.
From July 28th to August 4th, I will be in Mexico with three St. Luke youth and 15 members from Immanuel Lutheran! We will be building two houses, cooking, cleaning and spreading God’s love through our service.
On April 28th, we had our first St. Luke Bingo Night! The night was a lot of fun and I love to hear that many of you would like to do it again! We had around 35 participants and raised $700! Thank you to all of you that donated or attended the fundraiser!
May was a big time of planning for Confirmation Sunday and the National Youth Gathering! We had seven 8th graders that confirmed their faiths, sharing great stories about how God has led them through life and how they want to share their gifts with others. We also are fully booked for the National Youth Gathering and will be traveling on June 26th with Immanuel Lutheran Church!
