Here is a goal for us as a church between now and the end of the year: let’s shoot for 150 people attending worship each Sunday morning! This is not too far off from where we are right now but this goal may give us a little motivation to reach out to others and to keep worship at the top of our priority list for each week. We need this weekly recharge for our spirits!
In the Book of Acts we read that the believers were “praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47)
This verse gives us a picture of the early church. It is a call for us to reach out to those around us. God has designed us to grow, like a healthy plant, bearing fruit for the healing and nourishment of the world. That’s an awesome calling!
We are not alone. Jesus prayed for us as a church. We read about it in the 17th chapter of the Gospel of John. After praying for those who were his disciples at the time, he continued, “I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:20-21)
This “oneness” that Jesus talks about may account for the fact that we sense one another’s presence or absence when we gather corporately to worship God. You make a difference just by being there when we sing God’s praises.
Thanks in advance for reaching out to others this month with a word of encouragement and an invitation to be part of God’s family. Your words and the love you share have eternal implications.
Peace to you,
